My 30th Birthday Bucket List

"To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all." - Oscar Wilde

Before Sailormade became my full time job, I was preoccupied with planning my next greatest adventure. I'd unpack my suitcase from an international backpacking trip and immediately pack up my car to move across the country. In 2015, running a small business became all consuming. Both my professional and personal life settled into a muddied gray area; a place that's been both a blessing and a curse.

Fast forward to now and I've been running Sailormade for 5 years. I have a better grasp on the business and more structure in place. I'm ready to set new goals for myself and rekindle my adventurous side. So, I've come up with a bucket list of 30 things I would like to do before my 40th birthday. Some of the goals are big, other small, all of them exciting.

My 25 year old self would gasp at this next statement but... I'm excited to turn 30! Check out my bucket list below and tell me that this next decade of my life does not have some incredible adventures in store!

My 30th Birthday Bucket List

  1. Explore Fogo Island and spot an iceberg floating off the coast.

  2. Live on a house boat. Preferably, one on a beautiful Dutch canal.

  3. Open a Sailormade pop up for a summer season in a quintessential coastal New England town.

  4. Get married! (Come on COVID...)

  5. Scuba dive in Bonaire National Marine Park.

  6. Participate in an archaeological dig.

  7. Complete a yoga teacher training program.

  8. Travel back to Hawaii, make it to the top of Mauna Loa, and explore Kauai.

  9. Design a pearl collection.

  10. Get a Sailormade accessory placement in a movie.

  11. Befriend a whale.

  12. Save the oceans.

  13. Run a marathon (if my knees don't give out first).

  14. See the northern lights. Side note, a few years ago I went to Iceland with my brother. We took a redeye over and in the midst of trying to fall asleep the pilot told us to look out the window and catch a glimpse of the aurora. I rolled over and shut my eyes because I thought I'd have the chance one I arrived... didn't happen!

  15. Open a lovely cafe called Beluga Bridget's.

  16. Spend a long weekend (or a month) in Tunis, sip tea, explore art galleries and sample Tunisian delicacies.

  17. Learn French.

  18. Become a podcast host and/or start my own podcast.

  19. Get the sailboats on the Charles River to raise Sailormade sponsored sails.

  20. Have an epic collaboration with an epic company. What this looks like, I have no idea.

  21. Live on a farm with a rescued horse (or two) and a goat named, Blueberry.

  22. Write a fiction book.

  23. Backpack through South East Asia.

  24. Learn how to block print fabrics.

  25. Design a fine jewelry collection for Sailormade.

  26. Learn how to play sing-alongs on the piano.

  27. Do a multi-week thru-hike on the Appalachian Trail or Pacific Crest Trail, or another fairly well traveled trail system (not trying to get too crazy here!).

  28. Host an epic Sailormade clam bake.

  29. Be a ski bum again.

  30. Continue to find a little joy in each and every day!

I often talk about the story your Sailormade jewelry holds. I know the moments my everyday pieces have captured from the last five years-- from my first trade show to an incredible long weekend in Vieques, Puerto Rico, from three different jewelry studios in SOWA to an epic North Beach end of the summer party, and so much more. I'm not taking these pieces off until they fall off (and I can assure you they will not!). I can't imagine what stories they will be able to tell on the precipice of my 40th birthday.

Check out my everyday pieces by clicking on the button below and tell me what's on your bucket list in the comments at the end of this page.

To plan a decade long bucket list is too much for my brain, but if I could pass my optometry board examinations and move to Florida into an apartment with my girlfriend, I would feel pretty damn fulfilled.

You have a really impressive bucket list. I want to go to Hawaii. I want to purchase a summer home in either Florida, Georgia, or South Carolina. I also want to learn to speak fluent Spanish and French.

To be able to take the time away from work, to drive across the country with my best friend who I only see once a year, ( not this year; thanks COVID), to see the Grand Canyon and hike through Yellowstone.

Travel – a safari, Machu Pichu, and the Azores (we were all ready to go March 2020 – that of course didn’t happen!). In the meantime, I would settle for spending many uninterrupted days sewing upcycled wool sweaters.

I went to Glacier National Park last summer and now I am itching to get to see all the national parks!! 😁

Jaclyn Wagner-Boyle November 20, 2020

Travel! I want to see England and arrange to shoot a longbow like Robin Hood. I would like to visit Iceland and ride Icelandic horses and see how skyr is made in its country of origin. Some hot spring time would be amazing too.
